promotional package

promotional package for paranormal activity 4

paranormal activity's promotional package used:
-trailers
-posters
-app
-social media

there have been 2 official trailers for each film in the franchise, the first which is shorter, only 25-30 seconds this will be shown on social networking sites and advertised all over the internet, also could be advertised on T.V through the day because it wont show any horror it will just inform viewers that the new film is coming out. The second trailer is longer and shows more of the main story of the film, this trailer is shown in the cinema and on the official website.

paranormal activity 4 has 2 official release posters.

both posters show scenery from the film, a bedroom and a living room these images are made creepier by the blue filter  and the shadows showing the presence of some thing else in the room.
a quote from a review of the film is shown at the top of the left poster showing that it will be able to keep up the same affect as the earlier films in the franchise.
showing the release is in October on the right poster, which means even people who don't want to watch the film will know it comes out in October and will be able to pass on the word to anyone who asks.
these will be displayed outside cinema's, on buses, on bus stops, all public transport.

paranormal activity 4 will use trailers, posters, questioners, spoilers and advertised posts/ blogs.
using twitter and facebook, you will see the advertisements or tweets or status' even if you don't follow the person posting it because they advertise them viral to everyone on the networking sites. using youtube aswell for people to view trailers and interviews with cast and director, usually doing a Q and A live stream.

the campaign of paranormal activity using these ways of advertisement will vastly spread to audience and fans worldwide, interesting every film lover.

print analysis reflection

when doing my print analysis i realised that what i would have to include on my front cover, an image of a main antagonist or protagonist, including some scenery which gives the viewrs an idea of what the scenery is.
making most of the sell lines about my film will keep audiences thoughts on it and increase their intrest. A selline which includes a list of big name actors, film titles or directors will draw in the eyes of film lovers this will then have them looking at my film aswell.
my colour palate should be a 3/4 colour magazine, from my research i found most horrors use red, black, misty grey, and white. also im contemplaiting green and blue colours as they will enhance the attraction of my film.

For my poster i will include an antagonist and some scenery similar to the front cover but it will have a quote review of my film and a release date and no other text. i may create a slogan for it but im still thinking how i can make it something audiences will see and want to watch the film.

print analysis

the main sell line includes the name of the film advertised and the actor playing the main character

the pose and body language of Robert downy Jr. shows intelligence and malicious intent

contains mast head part hidden by the head of the main image

puffs advertising other films and film listings in the magazine

same colour pallet for masthead and sell lines

Robert downey Jr. name at the top showing he plays the main character and is going attract fans of his for example marvel and iron man fans.

release date at the bottom of the poster, Christmas day showing it is a good film for a family to watch together, expanding the audience.

an intelligent pose and body language from Sherlock holmes.

the city just seeping through the fog and mist showing it contains trouble.

trailer analysis reflection

from my trailer anlaysis i observed and learnt the ways in how i create suspense and fear in my trailer. i found that the pace between each shot cross cutting changes the feeling, the faster the pace the more dramatic the suspense is, so i can make a scene go slower if i want the viewers to pay attention then speed up the cuts when i want to add the fear factor. A blue, dark filter will add fear when filming in the day and green filters as though it was nightvision when filming in the night. the paranormal activity films always have something being moved or someone being dragged away so i will be doing this in my trailer, also using doors and empty rooms to my advantage and making them seem like a horror when all it is is a dark room, i will do this by adding non diegetic drones and diegetic banging of floorboards.

trailer analysis

paranormal activity 2 trailer starts showing the end of the last paranormal activity film, non diegetic baby charm music playing while the dad is speaking while recording the baby (hunter) room. all footage is shown from hand helf recording device or set up security camera filming at night and through the day. fast pace cross cutting shots showing happy family. next shot showing dad setting up camera's in the house and straight cut to paranormal activity in the garden as the pool light is being dragged about with no one else there. next we see the dog barking and growling at the wardrobe door, we know that the dog senses/ smells something in there we then see the door opening and closing by itself. the trailer lasts 1 minute and has cut scenes of text showing when it will be released and also reviews of the film and previous film.

trailer for paranormal activity 3 starts with the young girls playing and having fun on the trampoline with sound effects on their voices, an echo effect which makes the viewr know there is something creepy/ not right with the girls. showing a medium two shot of the two girls looking in the mirror, low pitched non diegetic drone keeping up suspense.

reflection on genre research

from my research of the horror genre I have decided which style of horror I am going to film.

I am using the paranormal activity films taking the ghost/ possession/ haunting films as inspiration for my film.
the setting of my film will be in a house, doesn't need to be isolated away or abandoned because the real horror of this genre is that it could happen to anyone living anywhere. mainly filming in the dark as well as through the day. trailer should give the impression that the family is not alone in the house.

using an antagonist which doesnt need to be seen or filmed as a person/actor it is easier because i dont have a big budget where i can just use an actor, although it will be harder to direct and gain fear from filming empty rooms and making it scary.

genre research

The horror genre works on audiences fears and worries, a successful horror should leave the viewer entertained, scared/paranoid, on edge while watching the film, the setting should isolated or differential to the surroundings. usually set at night or in the dark as that is a main fear of most people, they contain death, murder, crime. A must in most horror films is failure or lack of technology so the protagonist is without help from others.

protagonist which would be family because the audience will chose sides with them over the 'ghost'
the ghost would be known as the antagonists which would be focused on haunting and killing the protagonists and generally everyone else.

marketing research reflection

from the marketing research i have made i have learnt many things on how i should market my film. I know i can use advertising posters, social networking sites, possibly a number of trailers. for my film i am using the horror genre.
I will create a teaser poster which will be shown on the social media sites for the film and I could use magazines to advertise to a larger audience, the use of horror genre magazines such as scream magazine and shock magazine which are the largest horror genre magazines in the UK, they advertise films on the front cover, the back page and also using double page spreads throughout the magazine. I will take examples for these magazines and use them on my own magazine which I will make to advertise my film.
I will create a trailer for my film approximately 30-60 seconds long and will possibly be creating multiple trailers to expand my audience. both will give audience the impression of what some scene's will consist of and what sort of horror the film is about, but my trailer wont give away any of the plot or main story line.
